Livestock are an important part of sustainable agriculture. Our animals are fed 100% organic grains. They graze on native pasture, land that is unsuitable for any other type of production. The 100% organic hay is from sandy or fragile land that needs a permanent ground cover. In return their manure and bedding is composted and incorporated back into the land. The cattle herd is a mix of Black and Red Angus, Herefords and a few Charolais. We have Black Angus bulls (purchased from West Poplar Red Angus, Rick & Maureen Pituley, Rockglen). We start calving in mid April and wean in late November.
The cattle are raised according to OCIA/NOP organic standards that include the following:
No growth hormones
No GMO's
No antiparasitic drugs (ivermectin) or organophosphates
No antibiotics
